Ohio Dominican University - Unity Week

Day 1: Scavenger Hunt! Before 10 a.m., two members of our SHELVE team hid all six letters around campus. They then set up camp in our library, ready to discuss our toolkit and pass out informational flyers with all who passed by. They handed out Life Savers and talked to as many students as possible about our mission and why Shelve the Hate matters. Students found the letters in between their Monday morning classes, which earned them a free shirt when they returned to the library. Overall, it was a huge success and we got major exposure for it being our first day, interacting with 30+ students and faculty.

Day 2: Resilience 101: How To Help Yourself & Others Bounce Back! This event involved an interactive discussion with students, our wellness center, a team member, and a guest speaker from ROX (Ruling Our eXperiences). We had to grab extra seating because so many students, professors, staff, and librarians wanted to listen and contribute. The professionals offered their advice on how to help yourself and your friends when dealing with stress and anxiety. We handed out SHELVE tote bags and provided lunch to 45+ students and staff who attended.

Day 3: Unity Through Art! While we were expecting this event to be popular, we were astounded by the turnout. Students contributed to our chalk mural and in return got a Shelve the Hate branded water bottle, which we have seen around campus every day since. Art students were dismissed from class to come to offer their expertise, and all of our PA students contributed as well. This event truly brought the ENTIRE campus together and was a great way to end the week. We engaged with 100+ students during this 2 hour event.
